Dr. F. i’. Lynch, Wellington, travelled to Christchurch yesterday by air. Mr. At. C. iV. Rdd arrived at Wellingtoir from AucMand yesterday by the Limited express. Profess* F. W. G. White, Canterbury University College, left Wellington’last night on his return south.

Mr. Stronach Paterson, managing director of .A. S. Paterson and Company, Ltd., was a passenger from Wellington to Auckland by air yestoday. Mr. J. 11. Jerrain, manager of the State Fire Office, left Wellington for the south last night by the steamer express.

Mr. James Roberts, secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, left for the,south last night by the steamer express.

Mr. H. A. Young, S.M.-, chairman of the Post, ami Telegraph Appeal Board, is visiting Dunedin to preside at sittings of the board to be held there.

Mr. W. Grieve lias been appointed to represent the Invercargill Trotting Club at the annual New Zealand Trotting Conference to be held in Christchurch.

Mr. Cecil Mason, general manager in Australia and New Zealand of Columbia Pictures I’ty., Ltd., arrived in Wellington yesterday from Sydney, via Auckland.

Mr. C. W. Firth, associate geologist at the Auckland Institute and Museum for more than 10 years, has resigned to take a position with an oil company.

Mr. A. L. Monteith, workers’ representative on the Court of Arbitration, and Mr. W. Cecil Prime, employers’ representative, were passengers tor the South Island by the steamer express last, night.

Mr. Hugh McLachlan, who has been a company secretary in Invercargill for some years, will enter business in Christchurch about the end of August. Mr. McLachlan is at. present secretary of the Invercargill and Wallace branches of the National Party. Mr. R. J. Hodges, assistant general manager of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, Liverpool, expects to reach 'Wellington on December 28 by the Dominion Monarch. He will visit Christchurch, Dunedin, Napier and Rotorua before leaving Auckland on January 16. ■ Mr. F. R. Meldruin, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Meldrum, Dunedin, has had conferred on him at the graduation ceremony of Bristol University on July 1, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Meldrum's research in physical chemistry was curried out under the direction of Professor W. ID, Gainer, F.R.S., during the tenure of the Michael Hiatt Baker Scholarship.
