EXPRESS DELAYED
Mechanical Fault In Engine
Dominion Special Service
AUCKLAND, July 31
A mechanical fault, which developed in the engine at Papakura, caused a delay of about 35 minutes to the afternoon express from Auckland to Wellington. Some of the lost time was picked up before the train arrived at Frankton, and it was thought that it would arrive at Wellington on time. When the fault devloped it was decided to put the engine into a siding at Papakura. It was replaced by an engine from a southbound goods train, and another engine was sent from Auckland to take the goods train on to its destination. By this means the delay was reduced to the minimum.
