NEW POLITICAL ORGANIZATION

Socialist Educational Party FIRST MEETING HELD By Telegraph—Press Association. HASTINGS. July 30. “The name of the newly-organ-ized political party is the Socialist Educational Political Paitx, and its chief objective is the' formation of a. democratic movement to educate the people socially, politically, and economically, and to secure lot Hie people the full result of their labour by constitutional and Parliamentary methods,” stated the chief otganizer, Air. L. 11. Dailey, aftei tlie first official meeting of tlie party in Hastings yesterday. “There was a good attendance of members.” continued Mr.- Dailey who expressed himself as satisfied with tlie progress being made by the organization iu Hawke’s Bay. Among subjects discussed at the meeting was Mr. Nash’s visit abroad. A report states that Mr. Nashs visit to moneylenders abroad is considered contrary to the mandate as given by the electors at the last general election. Objection was made to secret methods employed by the Government, it being considered that it should take the people into its confidence, and that there should be nothing to hide. The following resolution was passed: “This meeting strongly protests against taxation being imposed on those who cannot afford to pay it; it is also of the opinion that taxation should be shouldered by industry and those best able to pay.” A further resolution stated: That it be a recommendation from the meeting that the Government, which apparently wishes to economize, should discontinue visits of Ministers abroad. It is stated that men are being put off Government works while these expenses are going on; the men should be retained and the expenses of visits curtailed.”

The cost of clothing and other necessities in New Zealand as compared with Great Britain, the policy of the Government in sending Maori married workers away from their homes, and the weakness* of in-ternational finance and other subjects were discussed.
