Action Described By Judge As Despicable
WOMAN’S HOUSE ENTERED Twelve months’ reformative detention for breaking and entering the house of Miss K. M. Reston, Napier, with intent to commit a crime, was the sentence given Geoffrey Spicer Kean, clerk, 22, by Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. Prisoner was one of three men concerned in the offence. The other two had already been dealt with in the Supreme Court, but prisoner denied participation. His Honour said he was satisfied that it would be quite wrong to grant probation. He looked upon prisoner’s action as very despicable. He accompanied the other men to Napier, and after things had gone wrong, instead of explaining matters, he ran away. Prisoner’s part in the affair was exceedingly disgraceful. Moreover, he had actually been on probation for theft at Nelson when the offence was committed. At the trial Mr. H. F. O’Leary, K.C., and Mr. W. P. Rollings appeared for prisoner. __________
