Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, when imposing a fine of £5 on William fete ven Pearce, who pleaded not guilty to three charges of assault. A. brother of accused, Thomas George Pearce, was fined £1 for assault. On two other charges of assault William Steven Pearce was convicted and discharged. , ... Sub-Inspector D. J. O Neill prosecuted. and police evidence showed that there was a disturbance at the Majestic Cabaret, Wellington, on June 17. After hearing several witnesses, including the two accused, the magistrate commented on the numerous cases which had come before the Court concerning disturbances at dances and cabarets. Young men went to cabarets ana other places in a semi-intoxicated condition, consumed more liquor and lost their self-control, the magistrate added. They caused trouble to themselves and the management, and were an annoyance to other people who had such places to enjoy themselves. “If young men go to these public places they must behave, and if they do not they must be prepared to pay the penalty,” said the magistrate. The magistrate commented that the circumstances in the case of Thomas George Pearce were different from the other.
