WELLINGTON TRAVEL CLUB

Year Of Progress Reported The annual report of the Wellington Travel Club states that the membership stands at SO3. “The executive has much pleasure in presenting to members the report of a most successful year of progress for the club,” the report continues. "When members read the list of distinguished and interesting visitors from overseas and from our own Dominion who have been entertained at our receptions, it must be recognized that the club has filled a very important function for the city. By holding out the hand of friendship and goodfeliowship, our activities for the benefit of visitors have very favourable reactions in the interests of the city, and we know that creates a good impression about Wellington in the minds of visitors to our Dominion. “During the fourth year of the clubs activities, the centenary of New Zealand will be celebrated, and the Centennial Exhibition to be held in Wellington will be responsible for bringing from overseas important visitors to conferences, and also visitors on private tours. “The club will play nn important part in the reception mid entertainment of such visitors, and it is hoped that during the coming year more evening parties mid reception will be held. Already it bus been suggested that we should welcome the delegates from the Van-Pacific Women’s Conference, which will be held in Wellington in January of next year. Delegates to other conferences will be welcomed. and every facility will be given them to mi'.ke contact with the particular society, social work, or industry in which they are interested.” The deaths of Sir Thomas Wilford. a vice-president of the club, and of Mr. A. Samuels, a member, are recorded with deep regret.

A call to a flat in Maida Vale Road, Roseneath, occupied by Mr Yorke Gray, was received by the Wellington Central Fire Station at 7.26 o’clock last night. The fire, which was caused by a defective fireplace, was extinguished by bucket pump after slight damage had been done to floor boards.
