Plunket Society’s Provincial Conference. . . The Wellington provincial conference of the Plunket Society will lie held in the Plunket rooms, 18 Kent Terrace on Friday, July 28. Mrs. Janies Begg, Dunedin, Dominion president will attend and Mrs. 11. Jowett, president of the Wellington branch will preside.. Delegates will be present from alt the provincial area branches including Levin, Masterton, Carterton, coastal towns, Featherston, Martinborough, Upper and Lower Hutt, Petone, Blenheim, Nelson, Motueka and Wellington. The proceedings will open with an early morning tea at 9.30 a.m. after which Mrs. Begg will address the gathering before the business of the day commences. It is expected that Dr. Helen Deem will also be a speaker.
Coster Ball. Arrangements are being made to hold a monster Coster ball in the Wellington Town Hall in September in aid of the funds of the new Fielden Taylor home for boys in connexion with the Anglican Te Aro mission. A strong committee has been formed, including representatives of the city traffic officers, and every effort is to be made to make the event run true to title.
Civic Band Social Evening. A delightful social and dance, held under the auspices of the Lower Hutt Civic Band, took place at Miss Eva Draper’s studio, Lower Hutt, last night. The evening was arranged in honour of the newly-appointed bandmaster, Mr. W. L. Richards, and to welcome Mrs. Richards, who arrived from England three weeks ago. In recognition of the support of the vicepresidents, they and I heir wives were guests of honur. Vice-presidents who attended included Mr. E. P. Hay, and Mrs. Hay, and Mr. W, H. Smith. Mrs. Jackson,' who was the band’s accompanist at the contest held in Christchurch at the beginning of the year, was also an honoured guest. Vocal quartets were given by the band quartet and the Petone Working Men’s orchestra, under the conduetorshlp of Mr. R. Ditmar, supplied the music. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Hollands. Mr. and Mrs. A. Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. A. Stanton, Mr. and Mrs. J. King, Mr. and Mrs. C H. Lasson, Mr. and Mrs. A. Brand, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hanson, Mr. and Mrs. E. Neilsen, Mr. and Mrs. G. Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. J. Newton, Mr. and Mrs. F. Winnie, Mr. and Mrs. F. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. W. Middlemiss, Mr. and Mrs. D. Leatham, Mr. and Mrs. C. Rainsford, Mr. and Mrs. J Ashforth, Mr. and Mrs. L. Allott, Mr. and Mrs. N. Norris, Mr. and Mrs. S. 11. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. D Daly, Mr. and Mrs. J. Bagnall, Mr. and Mrs.- D. Parsonage, and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Edwards; Misses M. Turkey, P. Williams, C. Winnie, E. Roberts, M. Hollcway, E. Rainsford, E. Wood, R. Walls and M. Linklater. The evening was arranged by Mr. A. Marshall, with the assistance of the following committee: Mr. J. W. Andrews, president; Mr. L. M. Allott, chairman; Mr. W. E. Curry, secretary; and Messrs. J. McGrath, R. Clarke, M. Wilson, C. Griffen and J. Bagnall.
