FOUR STAFF DANCES
Government Departments Make Merry
Four Government departments relaxed from work and made merry on the occasion of their annual dances last night. These were the Government Life Insurance, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Reseaich, and the Education and Agriculture Departments, the last two holding a combined affair.
At the Mayfair Cabaret more than 2GO members of the staff and friends of the Government Life Insurance Department enjoyed a very bright dance. The cabaret was gaily decorated with ferns and masses of iceland poppies. Demonstration dances were a popular feature, of the evening, and a masked "Paul Jones” caused much mirth.
Among the officials present were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Arnold, Mrs. Arnold wearing a smart stencilled velvet gown of midnight blue; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Chapman, Mrs. Chapman m black moire taffeta; and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Mushet. Mrs. Mushet wore a frock of black georgette. The committee consisted of Miss Giles (midnight blue velvet), Miss Vickers (brown and gold chiffon). Miss Yeatman (floral georgette), and Messrs. Burns, Eddy, Gunderson, Nicholls, Perkin, Ryan, and Shadbolt. Among the dancers were Mr. and Mrs. Shadbolt, Mr. and Mrs. A. Murdoch, Air. and Mrs. Meach, Air. and Mrs. V. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research held its annual dance at the Mildred Harris Studio. Here more than 120 staff members and friends enjoyed a night of dancing, interspersed with demonstration dances. The Alinister of Industries and Commerce, Air. Sullivan, was present for a short while later in the night. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Henderson and M. A. F. Barnett, and the committee comprised Alisses I. Bailie, A. G. Aiather, D. A. Smith, A. E. Gower-Jones, and Messrs. AL 8. Butterton, H. J. Wood. Among those present were Dr. and Mrs. J. Henderson, Dr. and Airs. B. A. Lillie, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Hughson, Air. and Mrs. Alclntyre, Mr. and Airs. M. Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Alandeno, Mr. and Mrs. L. Quiller, Mr. and Mrs. Player, Dr. and Airs. J. Warwick, Air. and Mrs. N. The combined dance of the Education and Agricultural Departments at the Brougham Street Assembly Hall was attended by more than 200 representatives of both departments. Airs. P. Fraser, wife of the Minister of Education, was a guest of honour. The combined committees which organized the dance and were responsible for its success consisted of Misses Whitcombe and J. Turner, and Messrs. O’Flynn, Fitzgerald, R. Winter and J. Winter.
