State Of Emergency
Sir, —Being an old man and not expecting to live till 1945, I should, like to ask those Labour members who amuse me every evening, when thej broadcast from Parliament, if they would be -good enough some evening to talk about the present state of emergency in our country instead of 'talking about 1930 to 1935. The Prime Minister stated, I believe, some time ago, when, the import restrictions were imposed, that there was a state of emergency that caused him to authorize these restrictions, and as 1 stated -before I do not expect to live till 1945, when the Labour members, if they retain their form, will have reached the stage -where the year 1939 can be discussed. I appeal to you to publish this letter in the hope that one of the Labour members ■ comes across it and can tell his colleagues of my disappointment.—l am, etc., NOT DEAD YET. Wellington, July 11.
