LADIES' NIGHT

Wellington Orphans' Club

Entertains

“Welcome, Ladies,” spelt out in gold letters on blue pennants, suspended above the front of the stage, greeted the guests at the ladies’ night of the AVellington Orphans’ Club (Inc.), when they entered the Masonic Hull, AVellington, ou Saturday night. The hall had been specially decorated for the occasion with multi-coloured streamers festooned across every inch of the ceiling. A coloured spotlight shone through the streamers, and pennants in rainbow hues hung about the walls. In one corner near the stage was the official dais. It was decorated in blue and gold and with trailing greenery, and bore the insignia of the AVellington Orphans’ Club in large silver letters.

The president, Colonel C. H. Weston, and Airs. AVestou, received the guests, and Mr. Weston also acted as chairman during the concert, which occupied the first half of the evening. With him on the dais were Mr. E. A. Herron and Mr. J. S. Martin. An entertaining programme was opened by the club’s own orchestra, and other items included songs by Air. Thomas AVood and Mr. Kenneth Alaeaulay, a novelty item on the posthorn by Air. R. J. Simpson, and conjuring by Mr. R. Leith. Humour was provided with comedy conjuring by Mr. A. Pennington and by a ventriloquist, Air. C. Burridge and his “Charlie McCarthy” doll. Dancing occupied the remainder of the evening, with Air. A. E. Nolan aS M.C.

A delicious buffet supper was served, and in the supper-room the energetic committee had again decorated lavishly with Howers and greenery. Special guests were the president of the Wellington Savage Club, Mr, Martin, and Mrs. Martin, and Mr. Peer, also of the Savage Club; Mr. and Airs. Loader, representing the Athenian Club; Mr. and Mrs. H. Kane of the Jewish Club; Mr. C. Blaekie, vicepresident of the Charlie’s Aunt Club; and Mrs. Blaekie, and Air. Oinbler, secretary of the Charlie's Aunt Club. A large number of Orphan Club members and their friends were’ present, Including Mr. A. E. Rolfe, secretary of the club, and Mrs. Rolfe, Mr. 11. Hill, treasurer, and Airs. Hill, and executive members Alessrs. H. Elliott, S. G. Collett, R. E. Flaws, E. A. Herron, H. AV. C. Mackintosh, J. S. Martin, J. Alatthews, J. H. Mcllroy, R. B. Reynolds, J. AV. Steele, F. A. Aveling, W. Campbell, H. A. Elliott, J. F. Johnson, jun., A. Lawrie, W. Ellis, T. D. Glover, R. Johnson, N. Nolan, E, North, H. 11. Parkinson, S. AV. Ridley, F. Al. Spellerberg, H. Godier (musical director and conductor), H. Liardet (stage manager). Alost of the members of the executive were accompanied by their wives, and the many guests filled the hall to capacity.
