Births, Deaths, Marriages

All Doubled

So far this year in Wellington there have been more than twice the number of births, deaths and mrfrriages registered during (he first six mouths of 1938. Births have increased from 580 in 1938 to 1210 so far this year. Deaths have increased from 332 to 715, marriage licences issued from 522 to 1141, and marriages by the registrar from 146 to 313. Though only 174 births were registered last month compared with. 179 in June, 1938, indications are that the general increase during the half-year will be maintained for the next six months. Nursing homes report that they have heavy bookings for July, and yesterday some reported that they are fully booked up for August, September and October. The 142 deaths reported last month compared unfavourably with 133 in June of last year. Marriage licences issued were 157, compared with 146 last year, and marriages by the registrar were 51, compared with 47. DUNEDIN FIGURES Dominion Special Service DUNEDIN, June 30. Figures for births, deaths and marriages recorded in Dunedin during the month of June, as well as during the last quarter, show a considerable falling off, as compared with the same respective periods last year. While deaths during the last month were exactly/the same in number as in June, 1938, the figures for the last quarter show an increase of 38. as compared with the same quarter last year.
