Oxford Undergraduates Disappointed

Resentment: was caused in Oxford by the announcement: that: the Oxford Union Eights Week party would not be held owing to a Proctors' ban on daneing, report. London newspapers. No reason is given for the ban, but: it is stated that dancing is against the rules of undergraduate behaviour. Last term, however, when the Unionparty was held for the first time, the Proctors then in office gave permission for dancing.

Arrangements for the party, which would have been attended-by a number of distinguished guests, were well in hand when the Hon. Hugh Fraser, the president, went to see the Proctors to get their consent. "I was astounded at the refusal to permit dancing,” he said. "It was felt there was no use in holding a party without dancing. It is a pity, for wc had planned a great gala. Apparently the rules can be interpreted differently by different people.”
