Coming-of-Age Party.

Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Murray gave a delightful dance on Saturday night at the Horticultural Hall, Lower Hutt, on the occasion o£ the coming-of-age of their sou, Mr. Jack McPhee. Mr. and Mrs. Murray received a large number of guests, the latter wearing a frocx of scarlet taffeta with a coatee ot blacu taffeta. Mrs. A. E. Werry, who assisted Mrs. Murray as hostess, wore black georgette, and Miss Joan Murray, sister of the honoured guest, wore a frock of flame taffeta. Mr. B. J. Naysmith, a friend, made the white and gold cake, which, as Mr. McPhee is a yachtsman, was decorated with yachts on a seagreen foundation. Iceland poppies and gold candles in crystal candlesticks decorated the supper tables. I’he evenin ß was spent in dancing, games an'd community singing. Mr. K. Brooker was master of ceremonies. Miss I eggy Milne and Mi*. F. Conway received prizes for the monte carlo. Mr. A. E. Werry’ proposed the toast of the guest of honour and presented the key, and Mr. A. Miss Hawtree spoke of her tour in the backblocks of Canada last year, when 3000 miles of shocking roads "were traversed, in order that settlers might know that “the Church had not forgotten them.” The people gave the party the warmest welcome, and they were particularly grateful for the opportunity to help the children, many of whom received instruction by correspondence. Mrs. H. E. K. Fry conducted the meeting, and the union choir sang.

Boulcott Golf Club Dance. The Boulcott Golf Club held a bright and very well-attended dance at Miss Eva Draper’s studio on Saturday night. A hanging basket of asparagus fern, suspended from the centre of the ceiling, and pots of cyclamen and fern massed at the side of the gallery were effectively used in decoration. English Counties’ Society. The Returned Soldiers’ Association clubrooms in Lower Hutt presented an attractive apoearanae on Saturday night, when the EnglSn Counties’ Society held a delightful social and dance. The programme struck an original note, for Wellington members of the New Zealand Society of English Folk Dancing performed many old English dances, and demonstrated them to the assembly, after which everyone joined in. Miss H. Taylor, director, gave interesting sidelights with regard to folk dancing in various countries, and Miss D. Thompson played for the dances. A play. "Two Women and the Telephone,'' was presented by Mrs. F. Hunter and Mrs. V. Draper. Mr. R. J. Cowie was the master of ceremonies, and Mr. F. Brian played for some of the folk dances on the bagpipes. R.S.A. Social Evening. A pleasant evening was spent by members and friends of the Lower Hutt branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in the club rooms on Saturday night, when a “diggers' night” was held. A blazing tire created a cosy and hospitable atmosphere, and multicoloured streamers were the attractive decorations. The president of the association, Mr. A. E. Pattinson, warmly welcomed the visitors, and briefly referred to the activities of the assrx-ia-lion. The programme was as follow.-: —Vocal items. Mrs. W.
