EX-MEMBER’S POSITION
Appointment In Public
Service
Notice of a question bearing on the appointment of Mr. C. L. Hunter, former Government member for Manawatu, to a position in the Labour Department was given by Mr. Holland (Opposition, Christchurch North) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. Holland is asking whether the Government intends to introduce legislation validating “the unlawful appointment of Mr. Hunter to a position in the Government service,” and also whether instructions have been given that proceedings must not be taken as provided for in the Electoral Act, 1927, prescribing a fine of £5O a day for every person who, within 12 months of being a member of Parliament, accepts a position in the Public Service.
Tributes to the late Mr. W. W. Snodgrass. and the late Mr. D. T. Fleming, former members, comprised the only business yesterday of the Legislative Council, which adjourned after motions of condolence with the relatives had been passed.
