IMPORT CONTROL
Ottawa Agreement Held Not Infringed
The contention that the Government’s import control policy did not mean a drastic curtailment in imports from Britain, and that in fact the figures, so far from falling, would actually be higher, was advanced by Mr. Nordmeyer (Government, Oainarut speaking in the debate on the Imprest Supply Bill in the House of Representatives last night. The real cut, he said, had taken place on. imports from foreign countries and from Empire countries other than Britain. The general tendency in the long run would be to place the British exporter in a better position than lie was in previously. “There was not one word iu the Ottawa Agreement which prevented this Government from taking the course which it took,” Mr. Nordmeyer said. “The Government kept not only the letter but also the spirit of the agreement.”
Mr. Polson (Opposition, Stratford): Tour own Minister did not say that.
