« Vice-Regal. Yesterday morning at .Government House the Governor-General and Lady Galway entertained members of the Legislature and their wives at morning tea. Last evening Her Excellency was present at the annual'meeting of the New Zealand Alpine and Rock Garden Society.
Sir Francis Boys, at one time ehairman of directors of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, now resides in England, and holds the responsible position of director of meat and live stock under the Food (Defence Plans) Department, recently created by the British Government. Other New Zealanders whose services have been co-opted bv the British authorities in a similar capacity are Mr. R. S. Forsyth. London manager of the New Zealand Meat Board, and Mr. H. E. Davis, London representative of the Dairy Produce Board.
Mr. H. I. Austad returned to Wellington yesterday after a visit to the South Island.
Mr. W. B. Tennent, Palmerston North, has left on a visit to the South Island. He expects to return next week.
Mr. J. 11. Reed, Invercargill, returned south from Wellington last night by the steamer express.
Mr. A. R. Galbraith, Christchurch city engineer, left Wellington last night on his return ■south by the steamer express.
Mr. A. E. Marnsford, mayor of Palmerston North, is visiting Wellington to attend a meeting of the New Zealand . Centennial Committee. Mr. J. Barr, Auckland city librarian, arrived at Wellington yesterday to attend the inaugural meeting, of the National Centennial Art Committee. Mr. G. M. Dillon. Wellington, general manager in New Zealand for Warner Brothers’ Pictures, left for the north last night by the Limited express. Mr. C. S. Luney, Christchurch, president of the Canterbury Builders’ Association, was a passenger from the south by the steamer express arriving at Wellington yesterday. Dr. H. G. Denham, chairman of the Wheat Research Institute, who has been on a short visit to Wellington, left on his return south by the steamer express last night; Mr. W. W. Mulholland, Darfleld, Canterbury, Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express.
Mr. A. F. Spiller, secretary of the Wellington Bowling Centre, was elected secretary of the New Zealand Bowling Association at the annuirl meeting of the association’s council, which concluded in Wellington yesterday.
