NGAIO BUS SERVICE

Coinplaint Made Against

Association

RETROGRESSION ALLEGED

Charging the Ngaio Progressive Association at its annual meeting last night with having neglected transport between the city and the southern end

of the suburb, while it procured an electric train service on the railway, Mr. D. C. Haberfleld asserted that the life of the association depended on its adopting a policy in favour of improved road transport. Mr. Haberfleld said that in three years since he had purchased.property in Ngaio he had seen it go back and back. The president. Mr. 11. L. Cummings, had advocated, electrification of

the railway, but the association should make better road transport to Trelissick Crescent and the district about it the most important plank in its platform. That part had a worse bus ser-

vice than suburbs 20 miles from the city. Not only did the buses make too few trips, but they did not keep to the timetable. The association should not submit to the Railways Department's dictation regarding buses. Mr. A. L. Franks said it was a case of tlie spoilt child. The bus service made Trelissaek Crescent. That part was now in the same position as the other parts of the suburb. If the residents there were keen enough they should form a Trelissaek Crescent Association. 1

Mr. G. E. Littlejohn said there was something in the complaint. He thought that with the closer settlement of Cockayne Road a better bus service would be obtained again. Ngaio was not going back. The president said the association worked for the good of the whole suburb. Ninety per cent, of the residents use'd the trains. It was not right to say that the association should make Trelissaek Crescent buses its paramount objective; The residents did not patronize the buses. Mr. Haberfleld: Rubbish.

The president said he himself lived as far from the train as Trelissaek Crescent.

Other speakers complained of the irregularity of the buses, and the reply’ was made on behalf of the committee that residents did not inform it of their complaints, but nevertheless it had taken up many matters with the Railways Department.
