WEDDING

Owen—Kemp

Fine lace from Malta, brought by the bride’s father for the occasion, finished the hem of the bride’s frock when Miss Gladys Kemp was married to the Rev. Lawson F, Owen, in Petone, on Tuesday. Ivory satin brocaded in silver made the frock, and a long silver lame train lined with white chiffon fell from the shoulders. Orange blossom and pearls held the bride’s veil in place and she carried roses and freezias. The bride 'is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Kemp, Adelaide Street, Petone, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bland Owen, Christchurch. The Rev. Owen, formerly curate of St: Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, is now vicar of the Manga-tainoka-Pongaroa parish. In.the absence of the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe-

Holland, the service in St. Augustine's Church, Petone, was conducted by the Rev. Canon Davies, vicar of St. Paul’s Pjo-Cathedral, assisted by the Rev. H. S. I. Kenney, of St. Augustine’s Church. , Edwardian frocks of lapis blue taf-

feta made the bridesmaids’ frocks. Plumed head ornaments of sunset pink added a subtle contrast to their gowns and silvered baskets of flowers in the same shades were carried. Airs. D. McGillivray was matron of honour, the Misses Stella Leopard (chief), and Alargaret Owen, the bridegroom’s sis-

ter, also attended, together with two flowergirls, Hazel Guise and Joan Thompson. The smaller attendants wore replicas of the bridesmaids’ frocks and halo caps in sunset pink. The ’best man was Mr. Gordon Kemp, and the groomsman Mr, D, McGillivray.

A reception was held in the Petone Rowing Club pavilion where about 200 guests were entertained. The bride’s mother wore a gown of gold embossed satin with a finger-tip coatee finished with' a sable border.' Her smart hat of brown peachbloom felt, was trimmed with french mustard yellow ostrich tips. Airs. Bland Owfen’s gown of burgundy lace was worn with a navy picture hat. Mrs. J. AValsb, grandmother of the bride, who celebrated her seventieth birthday on the day of the wedding, was in a navy ensemble with matching hat. The 'bride travelled in a frock of Windsor blue crepe suede with matching edwardian hat trimmed with a lilac feather mount and a squirrel coat.
