LONDON, June 27. England won the first cricket Test against the West Indies at Lord’s by eight wickets. After England’s first innings had been declared closed at the overnight score of 404 for five wickets, the West Indies, who made 277 in the first innings, were dismissed the second time for 225. G. Headley, the “West Indies Bradman,” made 107, thereby gaining the distinction of making a century in each innings. England’s second innings score was 100 for two wickets. .

Headley played a stubborn innings in scoring his second chanceless century of the match. He was shaky early, but batted attractively after he had settled down. He took 120 minutes to reach 50 and completed his century in 225 minutes. In the course of his innings he carried his aggregate for the tour past 1000 runs. .
