NEED, FOR MORE TEACHERS SEEN

« By Telegraph—Press Association. OIIRIiSTCHLTICH, June 28. “Though 800 new teachers are available from the four training colleges each year, it will be from eight to ten years before the profession in New Zealand reaches the strength aimed at,” said the president of the New Zealand Teachers’ Institute, Mr. D. C. Pryor, today. Air. Pryor, who is on a tour of the South Island, emphasized that it was the aim of both the Government and the institute to reduce the size of classes in schools. The greatest stop in this direction had been the stalling of schools on peak rolls instead of on average rolls. Little more could be done, however till more teachers were available. Mr. Pryor pointed out that of SOO teachers coming from the training colleges each year half were required to fill the places of those retiring from the services.
