IMPORTS OF SAMPLES
Government Relaxes Restrictions Bona fide samples may be imported into New Zealand in reasonable quantities, irrespective of whether they are of goods totally prohibited under the existing regulations, according to advice received from the Acting-Minister of Customs by the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association. Representations were made by the association at the beginning of the month about, the importation of samples. It was pointed out by the association that in the event of modification of the restrictions, unless samples were available there would be no means of showing the range of goods to buyers in time. ’rhe letter from the Acting-Minister stated that it had been decided to allow collectors of Customs to give licences at the time of importation for reasonable quantities of bona fide samples imported with the object of soliciting orders in the event of the restrictions being relaxed. “It is not to be inferred, however, from the granting of this concession,’’ the letter states, "that the restrictions on imports will be relaxed in respect of any particular class of goods.”
