Effect Of Social Security Payments Dominion Special Service. AVANGANUI, June 20. The AVanganui Hospital Board expects to collect an extra £5OOO from payments under tlie hospital benefits section of the Social Security Act. However, tlie chairman, Air. AV. E. Broderick, stated that tlie revenue will not. bo sufficient. The AVanganui Hospital charges .12/- a day for tlie treat inent of adults and (’>/- a day for children under 14 years, comptired witli a social security payment of 6/- a day. Of tlie hospital foes, however, only 31 per cent, was collected last year, tin' proportions being: Raetihi Hospital 42 per cent., Taihape 3-1 tier cent., and AA’anganui 33 per cent. .Last year the board wrote off £2-1,000 in fees. Air. Broderick said that, in February last strong representation was made to tlie Aliuister of Health. Air. Fraser, to iuerejse the payment to hospital boards, but no satisfaction had been received, tlie Alinisrer considering that. 6/- a day was sufficient.
