MONDAY’S WRESTLING

Next Nlonday night Earl McCready, generally recognized as the best and most popular wrestler who has come to New Zealand, will make the first appearance o£ his 1939 tour in the Town Hall, Wellington. The occasion, in itself, would be sufficient to draw a big house, and that be will be pitted against "Irish" Jack Donovan, the outstanding wrestler among those who have been campaigning in New Zealand so far this season, should ensure a large attendance. Since he was last in New Zealand. McCready has travelled widely, and has added numerous triumphs to his already outstanding record. In England and in South Africa be was unbeaten, and in South Africa he eliminated the last tnan to dispute his claims to the Empire title, Johannes van der Walt, who was scarcely a match for him. McCready’s bout with Donovan should prove one of the outstanding fixtures of the season, because Donovan has shown such convincing form as to be the logical first choice as an opponent for the Canadian. He has placed himself ahead of Blomfield, Kirchmeyer. and the rest, and has done it by mingling real wrestling skill with an amount of ruggednesw which bis opponents have found extremely disconcerting, Amateur preliminaries will begin at 8 o'clock.
