ANIMAL STUDIES
Wellington Camera Club The subject of the Wellington Camera Club’s monthly competition was “Animal Study,” which also embraced birds and insects. Ten prints were entered in A grade, and 19 in B grade. The championship went to Mr. L. Southward, who also won all three awards in B grade. Mr. H. F McDonald was runner-up for the championship and first in A grade, and Messrs. J. T. Salmon and C. S. Singleton were awarded second and third places in the same section. Mr. Southward’s photographs of the tiger at the Wellington Zoo and the head of an alsatian dog were considered to he among the best portraits of animals ever displayed in one of the club s competitions. The judges 1 voiced little criticism about any of the prints. In one or two cases a rather “spotty" background detracted a little from the animal shown, but for the most part this important point had received attention. The majority of the pictures were of domestic pets, and the photographer had endeavoured to show the animal in its natural s-urroundiugs and in a characteristic position.
