FINAL SELECTIONS
Recruits For Wellington Territorial Squadron MANY MEN OFFERING When the final selections of a uumof recruits who are offering their services are made this week the Wellington (Territorial) Squadron of tiie Royal New Zealand Air Force will be up" to full strength. There has never been any shortage of men for the squadron, the number available always exceeding the vacancies. The men who are selected this week will serve as fitters, riggers, and wireless operators. The full strength of the squadron is 20 officers and 100 airmen. In a comparatively short time the squadron has developed into an important part of the defence system of the Dominion. Till the end of 1937 the territorial force consisted of pilots only, and a squadron could not be formed before the arrival of the Baffin aeroplanes. The squadron had its first flight in March, 1938. It was formed to co-operate with units of other services in the defence of the Cook Strait area, and in an emergency its duties would include reconnaisance and co-operation with gun defences and the Navy.
