TWO MEN REMANDED
Charge Of Breaking And Entering When they appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday charged with breaking and entering the shop of J. B. Lauchlan Ltd., Willis Street, and committing theft, William Peter Anderson, labourer, aged 27, and Gordon Alexander Anderson, labourer, aged 22, were remanded by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., to appear again tomorrow. Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle, who applied for the remand, said the premises of J. B Lauchlan Ltd. were broken into during the night of June 9. A quantity of jewellery, consisting mostly of watches, was stolen. When the police interviewed the two accused some of the missing watches were found in the possession of William Peter Anderson. Mr. R. Hardie Boys appeared for William Peter Anderson. “You will have to look after yourself. You are a young man, only 23, and you have been in trouble before,” said Mr. J. H Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrates Court, Wellington, yesterday, when imposing a fine of £5 on William Thomas Ford, metal worker, who pleaded not guilty of the theft of a rug valued at 30/--Evidence showed that the rug was taken from a taxi parked in 'Willis Street on the night of June 15. Accused, for whom Mr. W. P. Rollings appeared, was later seen leaving a cabaret with the rug under his arm. Accused said he had been offered the rug for a bottle of beer, and had accepted the offer. TJie magistrate said he did not believe the evidence for the defence.
