TRAMPERS’ NEW HUT

Official Opening On Mt. Holdsworth Dominion Special Service. MASTERTON, May 15. More than 100 trampers, representing most of the alpine and tramping clubs in New Zealand, were present during the weekend when a new hut, erected by the Hutt Valley Tramping Club 4000 feet up Mt. Holdsworth, was officially opened. The new hut, which can accommodate 48 trampers, is built in the shelter of a rocky bluff and commands a perfect view of the Wairarapa Valley. As a result of the greatly-improved facilities for trampers in the Holdsworth area the Northern Tararua range is expected to become one of the most popular tramping resorts in the North Island.

Represented at the opening cere inonv were the Hutt Valley Tramping Club,’Wairarapa club, Taiuui Tramping Association, Tararua club, Ruapehu Ski Club, Manawatu club, Rue Sac Club, Heretaunga club, Victoria University club, Canterbury Mountaineering Club, Otaihape (Otago) Alpine Club, Wellington Training College club, the Canterbury Winter Sports Club, and the Stratford Mountaineering Club. The names of 80 men and 31 women were written in the visitors’ book on the opening day.
