MANAWATU TROTS
Excellent Acceptances For | Second Day ' PROSPECTS REVIEWED I (By Ovebcheck.) The Manawatu 'Trotting Club's meet- | ing will be concluded today. Excellent i acceptances have been received and the j racing promises to be particularly interesting. . Belting will again be on the single pool basis. The card is as follows: —
In the opening event on the first day several of the runners had their chances extinguished immediately after tile stall and some alteration in the form may thus be expected. Cavatina is a fresh horse and must be respected from 3G yards behind. Of the scratch division, Embassy, Narbada, Tsana and Guy Whispers should give their supporters a good run. Best supported may be Cavatina, Narbada and Embassy. 12.55— PALMERSTON NORTH HANDICAP, ot £IOO, trotters; 3.49 class. One mile
Blointield will probably be the popular selection in the Palmerston North Handicap. Native Worry trotted very steadily on Saturday and, notwithstanding her penalty, should again be handy at the finish. Of the others Gold Kip may be preferred. 1.35 — BROADWAY HANDICAP, ot £150: 4.i>o
The distance of the Broadway Handicap will probably find a weak spot in most of the runngrs. Purina was going well when she fell on Saturday, and no doubt she will be in keen demand today. Roadster and Juliana are two who may be expected to see the journey right out, and possibly they will follow Purina in the betting. Juliana will be coupled with Charlie Chan. •> 15 GEORGE LEONI MEMORIAL HANDICAP. of £250: -1.50 class. Two miles.
On Saturday’s form Mazaire and Loyal Direct are a likely pair in the George Luoui Memorial Handicap. Ace High was nicely placed at (he top of the straight on Saturday but failed to stay on as expected. Mo may be all (lie better for the outing the first day. Gentleman .100 raced among the trotters on Saturday, but will be pacing today. He won over the distance at Nelson, but. on the whole it is thought that most support will be forthcoming for Mazaire, Loyal Direct and Ace High.
In the Milson Handicap Saturday’s form points rather to Te Itoto. Petite and Double Peter. Accountant’s form was too poor to be true and maybe he will go better today. The three first-named make the strongest appeal. PUBLICANS’ HANDICAP, of £105; 2.5 S class. One mile and a quarter.
The Publicans’ Handicap promises to provide a keep contest. Hottentot raced well for more than a mile on Saturday and may do best of the scratch division. Loyalette is sure to have a strong following after her win in the opening event on Saturday. She will be bracketed with Tristan, who was also a winner on Saturday. Lynn Key and Envious also have form to recommend them. Favouritism may be accorded the Loyalette-Tristan bracket, Lynn Key and Envious. A 1 K
Arnpai <- ran aouu Chudic 84 All Bingen, Sphinx find Welcome Guy may find most favour in the Louisson Handicap. These three horses went good races on Saturday, though both All Bingen and Welcome Giiy broke once during the journey. Welcome Guy has been penalized 32 yards for his second the first day, but this should not trouble him over a two-mile journey.
The Ibracketed pair, Loyal DirectShrewdie. will no doubt again be the popular selection in the Members’ Handicap. Effie Parrish paced very evenly on Saturday and should again go well. Olive King gave a poor exhibition in the cup on Saturday, but with an even break in this race should be in the fight over the final furlong. Ace High, too. must have a chance, though he docs not always go away correctly. Possibly he and Olive King will follow the bracket in the betting. RACING FIXTURES April ‘2l, 22.—Whangarel R.C.
