HARRIER SEASON

Hutt Valley Club’s Run ______ The Hutt Valley Harrier Club officially opened the 1939 season at Hutt Park on Saturday. The president, Mr. M. Gough, started 20 runners on a three-mile trail laid by Mack and Walker. T. /Harland, J. Goss, and A. Brunette, ran well for new members, and T. Prichard and R. Goss were first of the older men home. At afternoon tea, Mr. J. Perston, president of the Olympic club, was welcomed. 'The following novelty events were held: —-Boys’ race under 10: N. Patterson, 1; R. Gough, 2. Boys’ race, over 10: C. Gough, 1; A. Gough, 2. Women's treasure hunt: Miss Inglis, 1. Women’s naildriving: Mrs. Gough, 1; Mrs. Robbie, 2. Three-legged race: Mrs. Walker, jun., and Mr. Walker, sen. Next Saturday’s run will be from the Scout Hall, Lower Hutt, at 2.30 p.m. C.Y.M. Club The C.Y.'M. Harrier Club held its opening run from the Methodist Church Hall, Lower Hutt, on Saturday. There was a good attendance of runners and supporters. The course covered about four miles. A run-in over a quarter of a mile res'ulted in a win for R. Wills, with G. Hepples-fon second. Training will begin tomorrow. Next Saturday's run will he from the Waiwetu Methodist Hall.
