Increased Purchases In N.Z. The New Zealand manager of the Cooperative Wholesale Society, Limited, has received advice from the head office, Manchester, that the C.W.S. purchases of New Zealand produce for the year ended December 31, 1038, were £5,740,92-1, showing an increase over the previous year’s figures of £458,487. Wellington Alluvials Ltd. 'The directors of Wellington Alluvials Ltd. announce that during the four weeks ended April 1 the dredge worked 552 hours, handling 225,000 cubic yards and recovered bullion estimated to contain S4soz. of fine gold. Sydney Wool Sales By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received April 17. 0.55 p.m.) SIDNEY, April 17. The Sydney wool sales were resumed today. A total of 10.01-1 bales was offered, 8310 being sold at auction and 1748 privately. Compared with the closing sales prior to the Easter recess, best wools ruled at about par, while average to inferior sorts were 5 per cent, lower,. Carbonizing- wools were unchanged. There was good competition, mainly from Yorkshire, the Continent and Japan. Clutha Gold Dredge Return By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 17. For the week ended last Friday, the Clutha dredge, working at Alexandra, recovered 110 ounces in 100 hours.
