Lower Court Hearing To Begin Today ABOUT 40 WITNESSES Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, April 17. The Magistrates’ Court hearing'of charges arising out of the Piha fire mystery will begin tomorrow. The two accused, Gordon Robert (McKay, alias Tom Bowlands, wool and skin dealer, aged 43, and James Arthur 'Talbot, labourer, aged "38, both of Australia, are jointly charged with improperly interfering with a dead human body, that of Patrick Henry Shine, in Auckland ou February 10, and with wilfully setting fire to the dwelling-house of Frank Carew-Tltomas, thereby committing arson, at Piha on February 12. The case will be heard by Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the main courtroom, starting at 10 o’clock or as soon thereafter as any minor matters have been dealt with. Mr. Sanderson has so far represented McKay and Mr. Terry has appeared for Talbot. DetectiveSergeant J. Walsh was to have prosecuted, but he is ’ indisposed, and the name of the officer selected to replace him has not been announced. About 40 witnesses, including some of the officers engaged in the investigation of the case, will be called for the prosecution. Their evidence is expected to occupy two full days, without cross-examination.
