MAN-POWER REGISTER IN AUSTRALIA
Trade Union Defiance CANBERRA. .March 30. It is proposed that the compulsory register of man-power shall include all male persons between lhe ages of 15 and 64. Speaking in Perth, the Leader of the Federal Opposition, Sir. J. Curtin, said: “Labour will oppose any step for the introduction of conscription, either of the armed forces or of industry." Leaders of metal trade unions m Sydney declared that they would advise all their members to defy the Federal Government and to refuse to supply any information, despite the fact that the register was Io be a compulsory one. Union leaders have already decided that if any attempt is made to compel employees to register they will not hesitate to order strikes in the hope of paralysing the defence programme.
