Charges Laid Against
Two Men SPECIAL GUARDS AND PATROLS By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received March 30, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. Two men were detained by the police following the explosion of two time bombs on Hammersmith Bridge yesterday. They were charged under the Explosives Act and remanded. All the Thames bridges arc guarded and the river patrols have been doubled. A special watch is being kept at the power stations. It is expected that Hammersmith bridge will be closed to heavy traffic for three weeks as the overhead suspension girders were seriously damaged. A man walking on the footpath of the bridge picked up a box from which he heard crackles. lie threw it into the river and the box exploded before touching the water. As the man left the bridge a second explosion occurred on the other footpath. A car-hire firm reports that a chauffeur drove two men to (lie Thames and stopped near the bridge. The chauffeur was held down, and when an explosion occurred the men disappeared.
