Possibly many people iu New Zealand are unaware of the existence of an extremely live section of our defence scheme ■ —the New Zealand Railway Corps. This corps, some 2000 strong, is instructed in defence work peculiar to its ordinary occupation. For instance, members are instructed in regard to tjie defence of station buildings, the entraining and detraining of troops, general infantry work, and military engineering. The object is to enable each detachment to defend its own station, and ensure the efficient working of the railways in time of war, thus assisting the mobilization of troops and the transport of material.
