Wellington Society’s Races

The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society began 'its second hamper races for young birds with a flock race from Hunterville, 101 miles airline, for which 155 pigeons, representing 20 members, were liberated in fine weather by W. Shindler. A very close finish resulted. The highest six veloeities were returned by:—T. Baxter and Son’s b.c.c., 211-38, 1107.7yd5. a minute, 1; C. Web.ster and Sons, 255-38, 1166, 6 pointsj Heyward and Hoare, 361-38, 1160, o points* F. Blair, 456-3 S, 1159.2, -1 points; T. Hayes, 90-38, 1154.8, 3 pointe; F. Couper and Son’s, 64-38, 1151.6, 2 points. Bast section: R. Taylor and Sons, 81-38. 1146.2, 7 pointe; L. Perkins. 175-38, 1133.8. 6 points; F. Flipp and Sons, 446-38, 1132. 5 pointe; N. Boyd and Sony, 507-38, 1128.9, 4 points; McCarrison Bros., 983-38, 1124.7, 3 points; I. Iretnonger and Sons, 310-3 S, 1120, 2 points. Saturday’s Programme. Next Saturday three races will be conducted by the society, all for young birds. A club flock race will be held from Waiouru, 134 miles airline, and a New Zealand Homing Pigeon Federation Derby race from Waiouru, 134 miles airline. Clubs all over New Zealand will be competing in this race, for which the distance is 125 miles airline or more. The owner of the bird returning the fastest velocity will be the winner, and will hold The Malcolmson Memorial Cup. A combined race between Pclone, Hutt Valley, and Wellington clubs, for the McArdle trophy, will also 'be held. The three clubs will race from Manunui, 170 miles airline.
