CURTAILMENT OF BUS SERVICE

Khandallah Residents Complain The inconvenience caused to a number of Khandallah residents by the curtailment of the bus service was mentioned at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Khandallah Progress Association. Mr. ,1. A. Orr presided. Mr. H. Desborough said that residents in the Nicholson Road-Jubilee Road area were specially affected. The distance from the Khandallah station was a deterrent to residents in that locality using the electric train service. It was decided to approach the Railways Department again and request that a stop for the electric service be provided at the junction of Boxhill and Cockayne Road. The opinion was expressed that this central slop would serve a large number of residents who are at present compelled to use an inconvenient bus service.

The Wellington city engineer’s attention is to be drawn again to the necessity of sealing the footpath in Onslow Road between Benares Street and Mandalay Terrace. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the failure of the city council, despite a promise made two years ago, to carry out improvements to Nicholson Road between Dekka Street and Jubilee Road. A further request is to be made that urgent attention be given to the matter.

Efforts are being made to have the surroundings of Simla Crescent station beautified, and a conference has been arranged between the president, Mr. M. S. Galloway, and the Railways Department forestry officer to draw up a plan for the planting of shrubs. The subject of the purity of the water iu the swimming baths at Khandallah Domain was recently taken up with the city council, and a reply was received stating that regular tests showed that the water was satisfactory for bathing purposes.
