BEAU VITE

Bred To Reach High Class NOTES AND COMMENTS Oratory’s Last Meeting (By The Watcher.) The substantial improvement made by Beau Vite in the past few months augury well for his three-year-old prospects, lor in addition to being by Beau 1 ere he i. out of the Martian mare Dominant, dominant is out of Lovelorn, by Melton Hebrew Maid. None of the previous ioals of Dominant earned racing lame, but. tin. family is a very sound staying line, Dominant being a sister to Nones, Menelaus, Lovematch and Left. The latter is the dam of Peter Jackson, Gaine Carrington and Wotan. Wotan is also by a Soii-in-Lad stallion, so the nicking of that blood with this family has already produced a Melbourne Cup winner. Wotan's feats up to the same period, however, do not compare with those of Beau Vite. Beau Vite cost 900gns. as a yearling, and Mr. Erie Riddiford was the underbidder. He was bred by Mr. J. Curran. Shannon. He has won £lOB5.

Suleiman. Punters are awaiting the handicap ot Suleiman in the Auckland Easter Handicap. "Weights are due today week.

Peerless in Form. The form of Peerless at Wellington should justify a trip to Auckland at Easter for the Great Northern Oaks. Taurangi is also in thus field. Peerless, however, may be_j - acing at Riccarton.

Has Done It Before. Smoke Screen’s bad race in the North Island Challenge Stakes is not his only lapse on this track. He performed similarly on the first day at the January meeting when favourite for the sprint, following upon bis good form at Auckland.

Bad Luck. Mr. G. M. Currie was unable to race Submission at Wellington. She contracted glandular trouble on the eve of the first day, but is improving. Better Than His Brother.

Gayest Son looks like developing into a better horse than Gay Son. He has more size, and the way he battled out the finish of Saturday’s race showed he has plenty of courage.

An Improved Filly. Pearl of Asia ran good races each day at Wellington after being badly placed in the early stages. A Lean Period.

The South Island had a very lean time at ’Wellington this autumn, possibly the poorest they have had at any Trenthain gathering for a long time. Wild Talk was the only winner, taking £245. Royal Chief’s place money amounted to £l5O and Dictate's to £75. Haughty Winner, who won £l9O, is trained at Riccarton but owned in Wellington. From a Good Family.

Scold, who finished in the four that went across the line together in the Plunkct Nursery, is a filly by Myosotis bred by G. Murray Aynsley, and belongs to one of his good families. Her dam, Berate, is by Silverado from Reproachful, and is a half-sister to Chide. Scold sticks on solidly and should develop.

Oratory’s Last Meeting. Oratory ran a good race in the Challenge Stakes. She will run in the Awapuni Cup and the meeting this week will probably be her last, as Mr. Duncan intends to send her to the stud.

Sister to Silver Ring. Floral Robe, who paid an outside price for third place in the Belmont Handicap on 'Saturday, is a half-sister by Robespierre to Silver Ring. She has occasionally shown flashes of form, but this is easily her best effort, and maybe all she wants is time. Time.

In winning the Hutt Handicap Meamea ran exactly a second faster than Taurangi when she won the Thompson, in ■which Meamea was never dangerous. The track on Friday, however, was slower than on the second day.

Galteemore. On Carterton form Galteemore had a chance in the Hutt Handicap, but he was one of the last to get going. Had Every Chance.

The Bigot had -e.very chance both days at 'Wellington. iHe is a hard horse to ride, but he did not hang so badly as to spoil his chance had he been good enough.

Has Improved. Prediction ran improved races at Trenthain. He nearly brought off a surprise on the first day, and on Saturday was prominent all the way. ■

Speedy. Density has a lot of pace and though she does not run on too well she should win plenty of races. Should Soon Win. !

Capricious is an improving filly and she should win soon in the south. Her dam, Egotism, ran second in a Wellington Cup. Close Relation to Arctic King. Barabbas, whose price in winning the Trial Plate was the best of the meeting, is the first foal of his dam, Alpine Camp, who is a half-sister by Campfire to Arctic ging. Barabbas is thus closely related to the last New Zealand Cup winner, as both are by the Paladin horse Rabbi.

A Drop. 21 rather serious drop took place in the totalizator returns at Waimate in comparison with last year's figures. The clash with Wellington would leave Wainiate a rather minor consideration with Canterbury sportsmen, and the scarcity of capable riders at fhe latter meeting did not tend to promote business. Swordstick. Swordstick had the benefit of a 71b. allowance when he won the Waimate Cup and was well handled by W. Connor, a promising apprentice commencing to attract notice. Swordstick, who ran a solid race, was got by Rapier from Pledge, by Boniform—Love Token, and seems to be growing most consistent in his form.
