“JUST A LITTLE FAMILY ARGUMENT”

A dispute over the manning of the killing chain at the Kaiapoi works of tlie North Canterbury Sheepfarmers’ Co-operative Freezing Company yesterday afternoon led to a cessation of work for the rest of the day. A conference was held this morning, but work was not resumed.
Tlie dispute, it is understood, concerns the manning and payment of men on the chain who number 35. When they stopped work, the whole process was held up and subsidiary departments were unable to carry on. Tlie chain workers presented themselves at the work's this morning but left about 10 o’clock without turning to.
“It is just a little family argument and there is every possibility of the dispute being settled by Monday morning," said the secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Union. Mr. 11. G. Kilpatrick, this morning. Tie added that, the dispute had been amicably discussed by both sides at the conference at the works this morning and that the men would probably be back at work by Monday. Beyond that, he said he had no comment to make.
The manager of the company, Mr. N. S, Wyber, said this afternoon that the matter was now in the hands of the Labour Department and he would prefer not to comment on the position.
