Seven Months’ Exports HEAVY DECREASE IN BUTTER Exports of butter and cheese for the sevn months of the 1938-39 season to February 28 show a substantial decrease, compared with those for the eorrespouding period of last season. Shipments of butter last mouth totalled : 11,279 tons, compared with 12,823 iu February, 1938, a decrease of 1544 tons. Shipments for the seven months to February 28 totalled 76,010 tons, compared "with 92,965 tons for the corresponding period of the 1937-38 season, a decrease of 16,955 tons. Details of the seven mouths’ exports of butter compare as follows:

Of the 76,010 tons of butter exported. 74,584 tons went to the United Kingdom and 1426 tons to other markets. The latter shipments compare with 3923 tons for the corresponding period of last season, a decrease of 2497 tons. Shipments of cheese last month were 7929 tons, compared with 6747 tons for February, 1938, an increase of 1182 tons. Shipments for the seven months were 45,986 tons against 48,229 tons for the corresponding period of the 1937-38 season. a decrease of 2313 tons. With the exception of 40 tons to “other countries” the whole of the cheese exported this season has gone to the United Kingdom. Australian Shipments to U.K. Shipments of butter from Australia to the United- Kingdom were 5032 tons, against 9665 tons for February, 1938, a decrease of 4633 tons. For the seven months to February 28, the shipments totalled 61,587 tons, compared with 56,930 tons for the corresponding period of the previous season, an increase of 4657 tons. Shipments of cheese from Australia iast month were 904 tons, against 1385 tons in February, 1938. For the seven months the cheese shipments totalled 11,892 tons, against 7906 tons last season, an increase of 8084 tons. Britain’s Imports. Imports of butter into Great Britain last month totalled 33,841 tons, of which 21,160 tons were from Empire sources and 12.651 tons frofn foreign countries. Britain’s imports of cheese in February totalled 9768 tons, of which 8559 tons were from Empire sources.
