WATER SUPPLY FOR EASTERN BAYS

The subject of the water supply for the eastern bays was before the Lower Hutt Borough Council last night. Its works committee reported that the Eastbourne Borough Council had advised that the Hutt county had again made representations concerning the supply of water to the Point Howard area, and had asked, in view of the fact that this area could not take the minimum of 30,000 gallons as suggested, that the whole county area at Point Howard be supplied without any minimum and b© charged for the water used. The committee stated that Eastbourne’s maximum draw-off was 250,000 gallons a day, and this had been exceeded during the current summer. The Eastbourne council, however, was taking steps to reduce this consumption and the committee recommended that the council agree to the proposals so far as Point Howard was concerned, provided the combined maximum draw off for Eastbourne and Point Howard did not exceed 300,000 gallons a day. The council agreed to this.
