DEFENCE MEASURES

Registration Of Men From 18 To 60 Suggested * Dominion Spilcial Service. •' AUCKLAND, February 23. The registration of all men between the ages of 18 and 60 under a physical fitness scheme as preparation for a. defence emergency was recommended by the president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. Ely, at the annual meeting. Mr. Ely also said that in view of the fact that the Pacific route had now assumed world-wide importance it was important that New Zealand and Australia should pay more attention to cooperating iu'their defence measures. He suggested that some agreement could be arrived at whereby the two countries could act together financially and otherwise to create a naval station for the south Pacific. Such a measure would relieve Great Britain of much worry and would also go a long way toward the adequate protection of the two Dominions.
