Minister Questioned On Defences (British Official Wireless.) (Received February 22, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, February 21. The Secretary for War. Mr. I-lore-Belisha, was asked at question time in the House of Commons today if he was aware that Gibraltar had been totally unprepared to resist attack at the time of the crisis last September and whether steps were now being taken to have the military defences put in a state of preparedness against air, land and sea bombardment. Mr. Wnrrander, replying for the Minister, said that, regarding coast and landward defences, Gibraltar was adequately prepared last September. The anti-aircraft defences had been relatively weak, but were in the process of being considerably increased.
