TEACHERS RETIRING
Board’s Appreciation Of Long Service Two teachers in the Wellington Education Board's service, Mr. F. T. Vaughan and Mr. 11. R. Fisher, who are retiring after -10 and 43 years' service respectively with the board, were entertained by the board at morning tea yesterday. Mr. Vaughan was accompanied by his wife, but absence in Englanl prevented Mrs. Fisher being present. Conveying to Mr. Vaughan the board’s appreciation of his services, the chairman, Mr. W. V. Dyer, said he had joined as a pupil teacher in the Clyde Quay School in 1899. After being for a short time in the South Wellington and Mitchelltown schools, Mr. Vaughan, in 7904, had been appointed assistant in the Mt. Cook School. The headmastership of the Paraparaumu School followed in .1906, and for 20 years, from 1919, Mr. Vaughan had been head teacher in the Taita School. Loved by the children, lie was held in the highest esteem by parents and residents of the district, and was noted in the community for his honesty, integrity and uprightness. Mr. Fisher, who had done his pupil teaching outside New- Zealand, had come from the Otago district to the position of headmaster in the Tua Marina School in 1907, remaining there till 1919. His next position had been assistant in the Clyde Quay School, from 1934 to 1938 he had been savings bank officer. At. the time of his retirement he was relieving assistant in the Boulcott School. The board was indebted to Mr. Fisher also for his long period of faithful service and wished him every happiness and good health in his retirement.
