NATIONALISM IN MUSIC

Address To League Of Mothers The Carterton branch of the League of Mothers held the first: meeting for 1939 in the St. Andrew’s Hall recently. Mrs. R. A. Every presided over an excellent attendance and welcomed members and guests. She expressed the hope that this would be a very happy year. Sympathy was expressed with the secretary, Mrs. P. Beere, and a wish was voiced for her speedy recovery in her illness. Mrs. Hedley acted as secretary in the absence of Mrs. Beere. The hint for the month was given by Mrs. Beale and the thought, for the month by Mrs. E. Williams. Mrs. Miller Hope, Masterton, was the speaker and chose the subject, “Nationalism in Music.” She was presented with a posy and took her listeners on a “tour of music.” Mrs. Hope illustrated her lecture with music from Grieg, Bohm, Brahms, hymns of Wesley, and Russian and Italian compositions. Mrs. Traynor, Masterton, sang. Mrs. Hope was warmly thanked by the members.
