Anticyclone Extends To Dominion Following Is the weather report and the forecast for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hour's ending 3 p.m. today :— General situation: An anticyclone covers the Tasman Sea and is extending on to the Dominion, but pressure is still rather low to the south-east. Winds: West to south prevailing, strong at first in some exposed positions, but gradually decreasing. Later again veering to north-west about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) : Rather rough to rough at first about Cook Strait and south of Hokitika and Nugget Point, but decreasing and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate south-west to south-east winds, later veering to north-west in the central and southern portions. Seas rather rougli in the far southern portion, elsewhere slight to moderate. (General forecast appears above leading article.) YESTERDAY’S WEATHER Wellington: Fine and sunny, with a fresh north-westerly breeze. Maximum temperature yesterday, 71.1 degrees; minimum Monday night, 50 degrees, at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, 67.1 degrees and barometer reading 29.920 inches. Palmerston North: Fine and sunny, with passing ; clouds and a light westerly wind. Temperatures were warm. Wanganui: A cloudy blue sky and a strong westerly wind. Seas rough. The barometer reading at 4.30 p.m. was 30.05" inches, and was steady. Napier and Hastings: Fine, sunny and very hot, with a light west breeze. WaTpukurau: Fine and warm, with a maximum temperature of 80 degrees. The barometer reading was 30.1 inches. New Plymouth: Warm and sunny with a light south-westerly breeze. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 30.0 a inches. Auckland: The day was cloudless with a moderate to fresh southerly wind. The barometric pressure rose slightly, the reading at 5 p.m. being 30.07 inches. Christchurch: Warm and sunny throughout the day with a light variable westerly wind and a maximum temperature of 77.8 degrees. . The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.849 inches and was rising. Dunedin: There was a tresli breeze from the south in the afternoon, but the sun shone brightly and temperatures were mild to warm, the maximum being 67 degrees. There were scattered clouds and for a short time in the morning rain threatened. The barometer was steady at 29.90 inches.
