BRASS BANDS CONTEST
Wellington Men To Compete Two Wellington bands will compete in the New Zealand brass bands’ contest beginning in Christchurch lomorrow. They are the Port Nicholson .Silver Band, which will compete in the A grade section, and the Boys’ Institute Silver Band, which will compete in the B grade section. Last year the Port Nicholson banc won the A grade championship, and should do well again this year. The conductor, Mr. J. .1. Drew, and 32 mem bers of the band will leave Wellington for Christchurch by the interislaiil express steamer Wahine tonight. The test selections are “Robin Hood” anil “Valkyrie.” The Boys’ Institute Band also did well last year, winning the B grade marching contest. They have been training hard since Christmas and ex peer to give another good account -if themselves in next week’s contest. Thirty members of the band, together with their conductor, Mr. A. Iremonger. left: for Christchurch in the Rangatira lust night.
