OBITUARY

Mr. W. A. Izard The death ocurred on Saturday of Mr. William Arthur Izard, aged 60, a well-known Wanganui lawyer whose association with the city amounted to a period of more than 30 years, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. He was born in Christchurch and was educated at Christ’s College and Wellington College before taking his LL.B, degree at Canterbury College. lii 1905 he married Miss Sybil Montgomery, Makirikiri, and she and four children, Mr. Noel Izard, Mrs. D. AV. Earle, Miss Suzanne Izard and Miss Grace Izard, are living in Wanganui. Mr. Noel Izard recently joined his father’s firm of Marshall, Izard and Wilson in Wanganui. When Mr. Izard started practice lie joined the firm which became known as .“arshall, Izard and Hutton and was later changed to Marshall, Izard and Wilson. Mr. Izard at the time of his death was the senior partner, Mr. Marshall having died some years ago. He took a wide interest in the cultural life of the city and was a member of the special advisory committee appointed by the Wanganui City Council to assist ttid Sarjeant Art Gallery. In sport his main interests lay in tennis and angling. He was president of the Wanganui Acclimatization Society, and vice-president and at one time secretary of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Club. Mr. Izard was a vicepresident of the National Party and a past grand master of Lodge Wanganui of the Masonic Order.

Mr. Thomas Williams

The death occurred on Friday night in AVaipawa of Mr. Thomas Williams, a resident of the town for some 10 years, says a Dominion Special Service message. Fo r practically the whole period of his residence in AA’aipawa he conducted a watchmaking and jeweller’s business. During the big earthquake of eight years ago his premises were practically demolished and he was a very heavy loser. In his younger days Mr. AVilliams was keenly interested in the volunteer movement, and was a member of the Napier Rifles. He was a good shot and was a regular competitor at the Trentham meeting. He was a justice of the peace. i\ntl was for many .years a member of Abercorn Lodge, holding the rank of past master. He was also a member of the Loyal Napier Lodge of Oddfellows He leaves a widow and a son and dattgh ter .Mr. Hoy AVilliams and Miss Dilicie'AVilliams.
