Benefield —Lander

A wedding of widespread interest book place recently in St. Mary’s Church, AVanganui, when Margaret Helena, daughter of Mr. John Lander and the late Mrs. Lander, AVanganui, was married to Richard Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benefield, Arles, Wanganui East. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Outtrim, S.M. The 'bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a wedding gown of magnolia embossed taffeta. Ruched georg--ette, outlined with seed pearls, formed a square neckline and the wrists of the long fitting sleeves were also trimmed with seed pearls. The flared skirt was cut. to form a train on which was appliqued a true-lover’s knot in ruched georgette. The embroidered tulle veil, which was lent by a friend, was held in place with a circlet of orange blossom 'buds and a sheaf of cream gladioli, roses and carnations was carried. The two bridesmaids, Miss Barbara Chorlton and Miss Lilian Dick, both of Wellington, wore picturesque frocks of pale green organza over taffeta, with V necklines, ruched sleeves and full flared skirts. Each wore a halo of small green velvet flowers and silver leaves. Bouquets of pink clarkia, sweet peas, carnations and green hydrangeas were carried. Mr. J. Gordon was best man and Mr. V. Benefield was groomsman. A reception was held, at which Mrs. Kavanagh, aunt of the bride, assisted.by the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. Benefield, received a number of relatives and intimate friends who had come from various parts of the Dominion. Mrs. Kavanagh was smartly dressed in a black ensemble with large black hat, and Mrs. Benefield wore a black floral frock with matching black hat, and carried a posy of red carnations. Miss K. Murphy wore a green and black patterned frock with hat to tone. The bride travelled in a blue storm toilored suit and hat, with turquoise blue anl black accessories.

Marr—Bryant

The little old church of the Holy Trinity, Ohiiriu Valley, one of the oldest churches in the Wellington diocese, where the bride and her father were christened, was the scene of a very picturesque ceremony recently, when the marriage took place of Saidee, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Len Bryant, Warrendene, Oharlu Valley, to Charles Marr, third sou of Mr. and Mrs. Marr, Northland, Wellington. The Rev. Mr. Isaacson performed the ceremony and Mrs. B. Bryant was at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride with yellow arum lilies and yellow and mauve violets.

The bride, who entered the church with her father, made a striking picture in a model frock of yellow french cotelle fashioned on classical lines with large picture hat. of yellow silk corncob straw trimmed with tulle and real ostrich feathers. She wore mittens and shoes to tone, and carried a lovely bouquet of mauve gladioli and yellow roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Dinah Bryant, only sister of the bride, was dressed exactly as the bride, only in a shade of mauve with a bouquet of yellow gladioli and mauve sweet peas. She also wore a gold bracelet, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. Lionel Marr attended his brother as best man.

After the ceremony, relatives and friends of the bride and bridegroom were received at the Oharlu Hall, which had been decorated by Ihe bride’s mother, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother. Mrs. Bryant wore a self striped navy sheer ensemble with hat and shoes to tone, and Mrs. Marr wore an apple-green ensemble ami carried a posy of gladioli and pansies. The guests were entertained at a home-made buffet afternoon tea, a feature of the bride’s table being a handsome wedding cake made bj’ the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Lyell Bryant, The bride's travelling frock was a Viennese model of eurthware red trimmed with fox fur, worn with a witch’s hat and shoes to match. She carried a brown crocodile skin purse. Hie gift of the bridegroom.
