British Aid For Chilean Disaster
The Bank of Loudon and South America has contributed 250,000 pesos to the British relief fund which has been established in Santiago as a practical expression of the sympathy of the British people with; Chile in the earthquake disaster.
The Admiralty has arranged for HALS. Ashanti, one of the destroyers of the Tribal class just completed, to .make a cruise along the Gold Coast before taking up duty in the Home Fleet. She will visit Freetown and Takovadi, the new £3,000,000 harbour built by the Gold Coast Government.
Questioned on tlie service-of Greek bonds, the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. R. A. Butler, told the House of Commons that he regretted that there had been no change iu the position, but Britain had recently taken the opportunity to remind Greece of the importance which it attached to a settlement of the debt question.
The New Zealand High Commissioner in London, Mr. W. J. Jordan, presented the First and Second Battalions of the Cameronians with two engraved wooden kiwis on behalf of the allied First Battalion of the Otago Regiment.
