NAPIER EARTHQUAKE

Eighth Anniversary Today

Today is the eighth anniversary of the Hawke's Bay earthquake, in which 260 persons lost their lives. The earthquake, which occurred at 10.58 a.m., was the most disastrous in the history of New Zealand. Fire caused very extensive damage, and dynamiting of buildings was resorted to to try to stop the spread ot the fiames. The whole of the seafront was raised several feet by the eaithquakc. ___
